What does it mean to be gifted?
The current federal definition of giftedness:
“The term gifted and talented', when used concerning students, children, or youth, means students, children, or youth who give evidence of high achievement capability in areas such as intellectual, creative, artistic, or leadership capacity, or in specific academic fields, and who need services or activities not ordinarily provided by the school to fully develop those capabilities” (Elementary & Secondary Education, 2004).
Still, each state may determine their definition of giftedness.

National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC): This organization provides gifted standards for the education of gifted students and gifted teachers, advocates for gifted education funding, and provides resources for gifted learners, parents, and educators

Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG): Many people do not know about the emotional needs of this special population, so SENG connects parents and educators to resources, networking, and also information about misdiagnosis of mental disorders of gifted students.
